Are you a developer, creator or designer for any of the flight sim packages we review here? Share your work with our community by uploading. Sometimes the question "is it necessary to report interesting flights?" The answer is yes. A person who recently reported an unpleasant flight received a response from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base that sheds new light on things.
There are two military training runways (VR-259 and VR-263) where fast jets are allowed to fly low lines.
Within the Tombstone MOA, aircraft are permitted to fly up to 500 feet above ground level. Military aircraft can fly up to 300 feet above ground level on the VR-259 and up to 100 feet on the VR-263. Although military aircraft can fly at these low altitudes, Federal Aviation Regulation 91.119 states that aircraft may not approach any person, vessel, vehicle or structure within 500 feet. So even if an airplane can fly 100 feet above ground level, close to people or buildings, the airplane must be either 500 feet to the side of the person or structure or 500 feet above it.''
Are these rules being followed? We don't think so, but we need more violation reports. We have asked questions and are saving this information for future comments and complaints.

Thank you for contacting the 355th Airlift Wing at Davis-Monthan AFB. I would like to provide some information on why you are seeing military aircraft near your property in the Chirikawa Mountains.
Using the GPS data you provide, your site will delimit the Tombstone Military Operating Area (MOA), which covers 2.5 million acres in southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico. Since 1975, it has been a special use airspace.

Flying units from Davis-Monthan AFB, the Arizona Air National Guard, the US Army and other military units use this airspace for critical training activities, including air combat operations, air raids and low-altitude maneuvers. Also southwest of your area are two military training runways (VR-259 and VR-263) where high-speed jets are allowed to fly low.
Therefore, if an aircraft is 100 feet above ground level, near people or buildings, the aircraft must be either 500 feet to the side of the person or structure or 500 feet above.
If you are interested in viewing an aerial chart showing MOA, you can use this website called Sky Vector (https://skyvector.com/). This is not a Ministry of Defense website, but it may be useful. You can select Arizona from the charts selection.
